Jessica is a person-centred Registered Clinical Counsellor offering compassionate, trauma-informed care for individuals, couples, and families. Her humanistic and health-focused approach integrates the biopsychosocial model to support whole-person wellbeing—mind, body, and spirit.

With warmth, genuine empathy, and a touch of humour, Jessica creates a safe space for healing, growth, and meaningful change. She supports clients experiencing stress, feeling stuck or unfulfilled, navigating relationship challenges, or seeking greater balance and fulfillment.

As a certified Yoga Instructor and athlete, Jessica brings a strong, mind–body perspective to her work, supporting physical health alongside mental health and emotional wellbeing.

About Me - The Long Version

My name is Jessica MacKay and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Nanaimo, B.C. 

I respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Born and raised on Coast Salish territories (West Coast of BC), it is a privilege to live, work and play on this land.

Whatever the reason, I believe we connected for a purpose, and if I am able to help you through your journey toward better mental health, I will.

Counselling is both a fragile and fruitful journey.

As a person-centred therapist, I hold the belief that you hold the greatest knowledge when it comes to yourself. I am a guide on the journey, not the driver. I use a combination of various therapeutic approaches, tailored specifically to the needs of each client, following initial assessment. 

 

I gratefully connect and hold space for those around me to explore the complexities of human life.

​I have found employment through helping others for nearly two decades and my professional experience includes addiction/ substance abuse counselling, facilitation of group therapy, Yoga instruction, working with children and young adults and more.

I obtained a master's degree in counselling psychology, I am a certified Reiki practitioner, a certified Yoga instructor, and I have a diploma in Personal Health and Nutrition.

I am currently continuing my education in training specifically for DBT and Trauma therapy.

I intend to pursue a PHD in this field in the coming years. 

 

I believe that wellness can be achieved by cultivating and maintaining balance between our social, spiritual, emotional, behavioral, physical and mental health needs. This balance can be realized through insightful exploration of the self, and it is an honor to work alongside each of my clients as they explore and develop healthy patterns that serves their individual well-being.​
